WE REMEMBER
There are certain things that remain frozen deep within us. In the cultural code of the Slovaks, the phenomenon of "the pig killing" is perhaps written as a matter of fact. This iconic pork celebration ceremony has been an integral part of traditional rural events for centuries. It's hedonism in the Slovak way, where alcohol flows, people feast, rejoice, and the whole process is watched by men, women and children. Pig killing is a pleasure, as Slovak writer Boris Filan wrote. The short film We Remember is a visual ode to cracklings, sausages or chin with red pepper, using ilustrations and a family archive. It is the author's anamnesis of memorable moments from childhood, when the pig breathed its last, so as not to upset the stomachs of the inhabitants of the village. Bon appetite. And cheers!
